The whole environmental agenda is moving very fast, as is the move to sustainable waste management, recycling and diversion of our waste from landfill. Our sector, like any other, has its own leaders, its "movers and shakers" and we wanted to give an opportunity of a "soap-box" to leaders in our field to pick up a theme close to their hearts, and to the future of resource management in this country, to provoke thought and discussion.

We give this opportunity by invitation to a new author each month, and past "Thinkspots" are added to our archive.

Why not let our Thinkspot authors know what you think of their article, or add to the debate - using our "Comments" feedback feature - at the end of each Thinkspot article.

Part of Policy Connect, the APSRG is the leading forum informing the debate between parliamentarians, business leaders and the sustainable resource community. Julie Wilkes - Skills Third Sector

May's ThinkSpot is by Julie Wilkes, Chief Executive of the independent charity Skills Third Sector, which helps ensure "the third sector has the skills and learning it needs to do the best possible job". Her article declares that third sector organisations "have a major role to play in driving forward green issues" and explains their plans to drive skills development in this growing sector.

Ray Georgeson MBE, Chair of REalliance

This month's ThinkSpot is written by Ray Georgeson MBE, of Ray Georgeson Resources, Chair of REalliance CIC and a long-time leader in the field of sustainable resource management. He fears we have lost sight of the "people factor" in re-use and recycling, and argues for a greater role for the third sector who have always been "strong at making the connections between the waste of material resources and the waste of human resources in our society".

Peter Martin, CarbonSense

This month's ThinkSpot is contributed by Peter Martin, Research Director of the leading independent think tank and innovator CarbonSense.

His hard hitting article "Methane Matters More" suggests we are looking at the wrong culprit in our attempts to defeat climate change.

Dr Caroline Jackson, Institute for European Environment Policy

February's Thinkpot article is by Dr Caroline Jackson, Chairman of the Institute for European Environment Policy, who discusses poor compliance in EU environmental laws (40% of the complaints from the public about the non-application of EU law concern environmental issues) and the need for an EU environmental inspection force for enforcement.
