South Kirkby Recycling Park - Link Road Opening

19/Oct/2009

The link road between the A1 and the proposed Recycling Business Park at South Kirkby (Wakefield District) in West Yorkshire, is complete and due to be opened for traffic.

The link road connects the development site to the Barnsdale Bar junction of the A1, allowing rapid access to the major conurbations of South and West Yorkshire, and the motorway network beyond, whilst avoiding congestion and local villages. The new road will also allow construction vehicles on site, avoiding restrictions imposed at the outline planning permission stage.

The features of this development include:

  • 22 acres of reclaimed development land
  • government grants potentially available up to 15% capital costs
  • prestigious development with regional and national profile, a centre for resource recovery and recycling
  • plot size and infrastructure negotiable with bespoke units possible
  • competitive packages; sale (freehold or leasehold) or rent
  • strategically located in the centre of the West and South Yorkshire conurbations with direct link to the A1 and motorway network - short driving distance from Wakefield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Leeds.

The adjacent municipal waste treatment and recycling plant, being delivered by VT Group as preferred bidders in the Wakefield MDC waste services PFI procurement, have received full planning permission and the delivery contract with the Council is close to signing.

The delivered VT Group infrastructure is expected to include state-of-the-art autoclave facility and anaerobic digestion for recovering residual waste, garden waste composting and a materials recovery facility (MRF) for separating materials for recycling from Wakefield's household waste. An HWRC and visitor and education centre is also expected. It is expected that the VT Group plant will produce a number of discrete recyclate streams including paper & card, dense plastic & plastic film, glass, green waste compost, fibre, and aggregates.
