The Carbon Quilt

Climate change is the greatest challenge facing humanity, but we cannot see the root cause of the problem: the 80 million tonnes of CO2 that we emit to the atmosphere every day. Because of this invisibility, carbon footprint information ? kilos and tonnes of CO2 or CO2e - literally don't 'make sense' to most people. Now there is a solution - the Carbon Quilt - a universal tool that makes greenhouse gases visible.

The Carbon Quilt brings the abstract concept of a ‘carbon footprint’ to life and it works on all scales – users can see the actual carbon footprint of a whole continent or a single light bulb.

The Carbon Quilt is the focal point for a range of carbon visualisation services from newly formed Carbon Visuals Ltd.  It can be a real help to those in the waste and recycling sectors who are trying to communicate carbon footprint targets and reduction actions.

If your organisation needs help in telling ‘carbon stories’ we can bring these alive, ensuring through appropriate visualisation, that they ‘make sense’ to audiences whether in presentations, web presence or printed report.  We can provide:

  • bespoke images as volumes of gas inhabiting a familiar landscape
  • animated images to show carbon reduction scenarios
  • tailored / embedded versions of our Carbon Quilt web-app
  • off-line software services
  • education-related visual resources

In order to help spread the word about these services Carbon Visuals have created a free downloadable widget that visualises any amount of CO2 and can be embedded on any HTML web page.  An example of that is given below. - For instance WRAP estimates that every tonne of food waste we can prevent will save 4.5 tonnes of CO2 equivalent*.  The image below shows what that looks like!
